Presenter: Florian Fuchs, AI Engineer
Florian Fuchs is an AI engineer at Sony AI in Zurich. His work focuses on applying Reinforcement Learning to interactive and dynamic games in order to enhance the gaming experience and support game developers to unleash their creativity. Florian holds an MSc in computer science with a focus on machine learning at the University of Zurich. After his master thesis, where he first achieved super-human time trial results in the highly realistic racing simulator “Gran Turismo SPORT” using end-to-end Deep Reinforcement Learning, he joined the Sony AI team which developed the first racing agents competitive with the world’s best e-sports drivers.
Presenter: Shigeo Hirose, Professor Emeritus, Tokyo Institute of Technology
At the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Shigeo Hirose conducted pioneering research in robotics and mechanical engineering, contributing to the development of robotics through the invention of several new mechanisms. He is dedicated to establish and implement courses that foster creativity and promote manufacturing education beyond the framework of universities. After leaving the Tokyo Tech, he served as the President and Chairman of Hi-Bot, a Tokyo Tech venture. In 2020, he became the director of the HERO Lab, where is developing robots for infrastructure decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, thereby inching towards his goal of developing “practical robots.”

Sunardi Tay is the CTO at LionsBot, a Singapore-headquartered smart robotics company that develops professional cleaning robots. Since the company’s inception in 2018, Sunardi has been leading the overall robotics and software architecture, building the company’s technical expertise from ground-up to launch over 5 successful products worldwide. In just 4 years, Sunardi has built and mentored an engineering team from 0 to over 100, developing an entire cloud robotic ecosystem with scalable architecture. Sunardi’s intense passion for robotics has helped him lead the charge in developing novel approaches to complex challenges in the field of autonomy, cementing himself and the company’s position in autonomous cleaning machines.

The Autonomous Robotics Research Center (ARRC) at the Technology Innovation Institute (TII) is the region’s leading organisation advancing robotics, computer vision, and bio-inspired technologies. The center’s robotics specialisation includes perception, communication, control and decision making, bio-inspiration, and self-organised autonomous systems. In this talk, Dr Èric Pairet, Lead Researcher in the institute, will summarize ARRC fast developed technologies in robotics across different domains, including but not limited to: aerial, ground and marine vehicles. Namely for applications such as search and rescue, environmental monitoring, shipwreck recovery, oil-spill recovery, surveillance, and reconstruction of damaged ecosystems.

Kiki, General Manager of VisionNav Japan, has lived and studied in Japan for many years, has worked in the robotics industry for nearly 10 years, and is also an excellent project manager. She worked for HIK Robotics as the sales director in Japan, and was in charge of the cooperation with many industry head integrators and agents, and signed a warehouse turnkey project with 183 robots. Now she is the general manager of VisionNav Japan, leading the local team building, market plan and project deployment.

Jeff specializes in new product development and go-to-market strategy. He earned his Master of Science in Technology Commercialization from the University of Texas at Austin. He worked previously in the Global Commercialization Group at the IC2 Institute at UT Austin, to take innovations out of the research lab and into the market. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from UT Austin and worked in the Technology practice of Deloitte Consulting serving several Fortune 50 companies. He previously founded a non-profit and several start-ups with a passion for delivering technology to solve difficult social problems.

With the proliferation of mobile robots into industry applications, robotics developers are seeking to bring autonomous vehicles to market faster and with a lower technical barrier to entry. Clearpath Robotics, a global leader in providing hardware, software, and services to enable autonomous unmanned ground vehicles, has developed its OutdoorNav autonomous navigation software to address this growing need. The software features robust autonomous navigation using GPS-based localization, tele-operation via web-based interface, and an API for building custom robotics applications. In this talk, we will introduce OutdoorNav and discuss its features, required hardware and interfaces to make an autonomous UGV, and an example of the software in action.

Mujin is developing a universal, intelligent robot controller, the Mujin Controller, that is currently used in production in multiple countries. It provides a unified user and programming interface for many robots and cameras, allowing simple setup of complicated applications such as unstructured piece picking with a wide variety of parts, multi-SKU palletizing/depalletizing or factory automation with top-of-the-line performance. The MujinController uses Machine Intelligence technology combining motion planning and computer vision technology to provide fast set-up, explainable robot behavior and reliable error recovery.
Mujin is actively hiring in Japan, China and the USA.
Biomimetic Intelligence and Robotics
