In-pipe robot introduction at the iXs demonstration spoon in the International Robot Exhibition(2019.12.18-2019.12.21)
AIRo-2.4, a 3 inch in-pipe inspection robot developed by the compnay iXs based on the technology from our laboratory, will be introduced at the International Robot Exhibition.

EcoPro 2019 in Tokyo
EcoPro 2019 was held at Big Sight in Tokyo from December 5 to 7, 2019!
This event was held so that many people could know that companies, universities and local organizations are working to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted at the UN Summit.
At this exhibition, 100 studies from Ritsumeikan University were chosen as SDGs initiatives, and 11 special exhibitions were introduced and demonstrated at the booth.
Lecturer Kakogawa (currently at Kawamura Lab), Oka (D1), Kushiya (M1), Sera (M1) and Ota (B4) from our lab participated in this exhibition, and exhibited an in-pipe inspection robot.
In addition, a workshop for elementary and junior high school students was also held, and lecturer Kakogawa explained the snake-type robots to the children who came.
Prof. Fan and Associate Prof. Qu from Beihang University visited our university
On December 2, 2019, Prof. Shangchun Fan and Associate Prof. Xiaolei Qu from Beihang University (China) visited our university and gave us a lecture about their research activities in Advanced Sensing Technology Lab.
In addition, they visited our lab after the lecture, and we had in-depth exchanges after the introduction of the research activities in our lab.
Professor Tobi Delbruck from ETH Zurich visited our university
On October 17, 2019, Prof. Tobi Delbruck from Zurich University of Technology (Switzerland) visited our university and gave a lecture entitled “Data Driven Perception and Inference”.
After the lecture, he visited each laboratory and discussed various robots during the introduction of our laboratory.

The in-pipe inspection robot under development in our laboratory was reported in the Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun on 10/8.

OPEN CAMPUS 2019
On August 3, 2019, The Open Campus Day was held.
Although it was a hot day, we had many high school students and parents visiting our lab. A brief introduction about the lab researches and robot applications is given by our lab members.

From August 26 to 28, “2019 International Conference on Advanced Mechatronic Systems (ICAMechS 2019)” was held at Ritsumeikan University BKC Campus, in which Professor Ma is the program chair.
On the conference, Mr. Sera (M1) from our lab gave a presentation with the following topic:
- Fumiya Sera, Atsushi Kakogawa, and Shugen Ma, “Joint Angle Control of an 8-inch Gas Pipeline Inspection Robot to Pass through Bends”, 2019 International Conference on Advanced Mechatronic Systems, pp.28-33, 2019.
Visitor from Zhejiang Sci-Tech University
On July 19th, Dr. Yang Zhang from Zhejiang Sci-Tech University took a visit to our laboratory. He talked with Prof. Ma and Assistant Prof. Tian, after which, we introduced him the current research in our lab.
Mr. Katsuma and Mr. Oka Awarded!
Our lab members Mr. Katsuma and Mr. Oka have been working on the research of snake robot and pipe robot separately. Recently, they were awarded with high evaluations.
To be specifically, Mr. Katsuma (M1) was awarded by The Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME).
And Mr. Oka (D1) received the JASSO scholarship. For the details, please refer to the Japanese web page.
